One of these letters was sent to each individual member of staff who had taken part in the gauge conversion over a single weekend in May 1892. It almost reads as if it is going to be a “thank you”, but does not quite say so… And why the delay in sending it until September?  The GWR Board must have met several times since May. The copy of the minute referred to is not present.
