Description
C.J. Ashford is a British artist who was born in 1919 and is still (2015) painting. In 2010, he was elected Vice President of the Guild of Aviation Artists and was one of their founder members.
His speciality is painting aircraft and he has paintings in the Royal Air Force Museum and Yorkshire Air museum. However, he also has a considerable reputation as a maritime artist.
This work is one of a pair, the other being of “TITANIC” which we will be featuring soon. “LUSITANIA” was built by John Brown of Clydebank, being launched on 7th June 1906. Maiden voyage 7th September, 1907. She was torpedoed and sunk by the German U-Boat U-20 on 7th May 1915.
